Hey! That's me!

That's my halloween costume. I made it in three days from an old bedsheet, some scrap fabric, carboard, foil tape, and wire. Not too bad, although the proportions of the belt didn't turn out quite right.

I'm dressed as Agatha Heterodyne from the excellent webcomic Girl Genius. The dress itself appears in the Sturmhalten arc, where...well, just go read it. Seriously, I'd just spoil it if I tried to explain.

The dress is best seen HERE and HERE. You can see which version I decided to make, and why.

You know what they say....warm hands, cold heart.

How could one wear a dress like that and not pose dramatically? It just wouldn't be right.

that is fabulous, and beautiful...I think it actually looks more wearable/comfortable than the one from the comic. I want an excuse to make one, now.

great job!

It was terribly easy. Just an old bed sheet doubled and gathered, with the brooch pinned in place by two of those clasp pin things. The necklace/chains were maybe a bit more challenging, what I did was cut out a whole bunch of cardboard circles, cover them in that foil tape you use for duct work, and round the corners by rubbing them against another piece of cardboard. Then I punched holes with a big needle and inserted some large jump rings. There's also a bit of cardboard reinforcing the point of the belt. I planned on adding hooks and eyes to close it, but I've just been using safely pins.

It is pretty comfortable, actually. A little cold for October, however.

 spiffy. the cardboard & tape circles were a clever idea. I wonder if costume jewelry would work as well, although maybe it wouldn't be as strong.

heh, the cold gives you the perfect reason to make a cape, then!

What a great costume! Yay for Girl Genius dressup! I really like that you chose to make this dress rather than her usual one. Very unique.
